Help with PDF Files and Plugins

PDF, or Portable Document Format is an Adobe product that lets you create documents that can be opened and viewed on any computer system while preserving the document's original appearance and text formatting.

Most browsers are preconfigured to handle PDF files, if yours is not, download the free Adobe Acrobat Reader at the Adobe site. It installs automatically on your system.

To open a PDF file, simply click on it like a regular web hot link. You may see a splash screen for Acrobat, and then your browser window may have some added buttons at the top or bottom of the window or frame. These buttons will help you configure the document for easy reading. Some PDF files will open in a separate window.

Once you open a PDF document, there may be bookmarks on the left to help you navigate through the document. Click on the bookmarks to jump to the labeled spot.

In the text area, blue boxes or areas where your mouse cursor changes to a pointing finger indicate hot-links to other locations in the document or to other documents. If these text area links don't work, you have not configured the Acrobat Reader plugin correctly.

To return to the CDT website, use the BACK button, or if the BACK button is greyed-out, close or minimize the Acrobat Reader (PDF) window. The CDT website may be hidden behind the PDF window.
