New Registration Option Stream

The College is pleased to implement a new registration application process, which will allow applicants to identify skills and knowledge obtained through informal means.

The College has developed, with the assistance of funding from the Ministry of Community, Aboriginal and Women's Services and the Ministry of Advanced Education, a prior learning assessment process which is now being implemented.

An applicant, under Bylaw 29(2)(b), may be assessed as eligible to take requisite theory and practical examinations, if the applicant can demonstrate acquisition of approved entry level competencies, such as are used to assess applicants under section 29(2)(a).

This assessment process will allow the College to recognize the critical skill and knowledge set obtained by an individual who has, for example, many years of informal training in the workplace, or who has intermittent or alternative training elsewhere. This application process will be accessible to all applicants, but will be particularly suited to some foreign trained applicants and applicants that have apprenticeship or other informal training processes.

This assessment process will also allow the College to identify gaps and shortcomings in an applicant's background and will assist the College in identifying, for the applicant, suitable educational opportunities.
